BOATYARD ROPE

This photo of the rope is part of my "boatyard junkyard" series. I played with selective coloring and kind of like the very subtle result.

WAITING FOR SUPPER

When the tide is going out on the Blue Fish River, an egret can often be seen waiting on this dock to have his supper. When the tide is low enough he is joined by many other egrets feeding in the low waters. I really love all the shades of green in this photo.

FISHING IN PLYMOUTH

This photo was taken last summer on the way home from a wonderful sunset whale watch. I was fortunate to capture this gentleman fishing off the jetty at just the right time.

SAILBOAT LINEUP

I remembered this photo of the sailboats with sailing season starting. We have a maritime school here in Duxbury. It's fun to see all the young sailors out in the bay in these boats. It's a picture I haven't yet been able to capture, but I did get the sailboats at rest.

FALLEN DUNE FENCE

Another watercolor painting was done today. I think I like this better than the daffodils. I also used some pen and ink for detail. I'm having fun with my watercolors again.

HYDRANGEAS IN NANTUCKET

Today is my sister's birthday, and I'm remembering a wonderful weekend we spent in Nantucket. All the hydrangeas were at their peak, and there were so many varieties and colors. We had a lot of fun photographing them and then taking some very nice bike rides.

'NEATH THE BRIDGE

This man was fly fishing at sunset when I spotted him through the under side of the Powder Point Bridge in Duxbury. I was on my way home and was surely glad I had my camera with me at that moment. I had to quickly park the car and run back to get this shot before it was too late.

THE MAYFLOWER AT NIGHT

I took a night time photography class, and this is one of the photos that turned out. The water was very still, and I like the effect. I should try night photos more often.

DAFFODILS - WATERCOLOR

I didn't have to work today, and it was raining. I didn't go to the studio where all my pastels are, so I tried to watercolor again after about 3 years. I was never any good because I can't keep my hands out of the paint and end up making mud. But today, I decided to try it again. This is a painting of the photograph below. It's OK, not very good, but I had a good time painting it. I think I'll keep practicing and try to be patient while letting the paint dry, and maybe I'll get better. I really like the wet-on-wet technique. It's the negative painting that's so difficult for me.

Now I have to do something responsible like think about dinner.

WINTER TO SPRING 2006

I just had this film processed the other day and found this sequence. The "Winter Sunset" is the view from my kitchen window every evening.

One year a woman in town planted all of these daffodils along Harrison Street in memory of her mother. Now daffodils are sprouting up all over town. It's really pretty. Spring comes in on such a happy note!

PEELING PAINT

I was struck by how many lives this door has had. It was on an old building at the Duxbury boat yard and is no longer there. The building has been renovated and the door replaced. What a shame!

HALF MAST IN THE DUNES

I took this photo the day after 9/11. I went down to the beach to take a walk and found many others doing the same thing. The only sounds were the waves and the jingling of dog collars. Still, it was very silent.
